C&D Production Releases Its First Digital Video Magazine
6 Oct 2004
The magazine comprises six documentaries and it retails for US26.60 per issue. "We hope to publish and sell 500,000 copies for the first few editions," says C&D's Chairman of the Board, Michael Chou who has personally advanced much of the cost of maintaining six video crews in China several of which have been chasing stories since 1999.
"The short films are currently available in a unique media format," says Chou who has dubbed it DVM (Digital Video Magazine). Similar to the DVD, Chou's DVM has incorporated a mini-magazine with stills from the video as part of the disc's casing. Each documentary represents chapters in the magazine and is interactive and annotated.
Says Chou, "As a filmmaker, I wanted to be able to capture in this art form stories of China's vanishing culture and at the same time make it accessible to the public."
Among the feature films in the installments are documentaries on China's cave people, a jazz dancer perfecting her craft against the backdrop of Shanghai and a day in the life of a young Buddha.
The company has produced advertisements for Saatchi & Saatchi and J. Walter Thompson and its extensive client list includes Ford, Toyota, 7-11 Convenience Stores, Mild Seven, Sony Ericsson and China Airlines. Established in 1998, the company specializes in brand identity and image marketing and has earned a reputation for innovation and success in promoting consumer brands.
